The Buzz about Third Grade
June 5, 2017
Where has the school year gone? This has been a wonderful year even with our move to the temporary room and the move back. The children have been so resilient. I have enjoyed teaching each and every child. What a great group of kids who love learning!
This summer please check the Fourth Grade website for the summer required reading. Read, read, read this summer. Don’t loose Reading skills this summer and use your Reading log to record your progress. Please, please, please have your child work at the ixl.com site. I cannot stress enough how being confident with the addition/subtraction/multiplication & division facts will help your child in the future. If your child has completed a minimum of 20 hours of ixl.com this summer, I will have a treat for him/her on Orientation Day. Please have your child work at all the Math skills Levels D & E especially measurement, probability, graphs, fractions, addition, subtraction & multiplication with regrouping as well as practicing those facts.
Each child will also bring home his/her handwriting book to continue to practice. We have gone over all of the lowercase and uppercase letters but they need time to practice. Finish the pages in the back of the book and have your child write a letter to grandma or a friend in cursive. They loved writing to their Third Grade pen pals at St. Gregory’s this past school year.
On this Wednesday, June 7th, everyone meets downtown at St. Paul’s church for the end- of- school mass followed by the end-of-the-year awards. It begins at 9:30am. It usually lasts about two hours. Please wear your church uniform. Upon completion of the awards ceremony, I will pass out report cards and then hug everyone good-bye. We dismiss the students from church. We do not come back to school. There is no before or after care for students on that day. Please do not drop off your child at church since we do not know what time we will be done. This is a wonderful celebration of what the children have accomplished this year and you don’t want to miss it.
I wish every family a summer filled with fun, rest, peace, and many happy memories. I know that you have heard this before, but enjoy your children as much as possible. They grow up in a blink of an eye.
Happy Summer!
