I am very happy that I am your teacher for Third Grade! I have 20 years of teaching experience and I enjoy my chosen vocation very much. I believe that Portsmouth Catholic Regional School is a special place. All three of my children attended school here. I love being able to pray with my students and teaching you the many joys and the peace that comes from living as a child of Christ. I can hardly wait to get started!
Books-Please bring your books back to school on Monday, August 18th covered. The workbooks should be covered in clear contact paper. The hardback books should be covered by the large stretchy cloth covers (Dollar Tree, Target or Wal-Mart) or by brown paper bags. Please print your name in large letters on the exterior of all books.
Schoolwork-Graded and ungraded papers will come home on Thursdays in Communication envelope. Students should return the empty envelope on the next school day (usually Friday) with your parent’s signature on it.
Uniforms should be worn beginning Monday, August 18th. Please read and discuss the uniform policies located within the Student Handbook on our website (www.portsmouthcatholic.net). Please note the church uniform should be worn on days with Mass which are Wednesdays. Shirts are expected to be tucked in and a belt is needed with the slacks and shorts.
Lunch-We eat lunch each day at 12:15 pm and have lunch and recess with the 4th & 5th graders. PCRS students are not allowed to use the microwave so please do not send microwavable lunches to school. Third Graders can only order ice cream on Fridays.
Snacks-Please bring a healthy, easy to open snack to school each day. Since we are not eating lunch until 12:15 pm it is very important that your child eats a hearty breakfast and brings a snack to school. Ritz bits, granola bars, Nabs, fruit, etc. are good choices. No foods that need a spoon or yogurt in a tube are allowed for snack. We will have a short snack and bathroom break each morning. Students are encouraged to bring water bottles with lids which can stay on/under their desks.
Homework-We use an Assignment Book for students to write their homework on a daily basis. Please cover the assignment book in contact paper and write your name boldly on the exterior. This assignment book will assist you in gathering your materials at the end of the day and with keeping your assignments organized. Your behavior code/color will also be recorded in it. Please make sure that you bring it back to school each day.
Discipline-I expect my students to live the Golden Rule and behavior problems to be at a minimum. I will continue using the discipline program used in 1st and 2nd Grade. In addition, I use kindness coins so students can earn food and treats for dogs and cats at the Humane Shelter. This year I will also teach the students the Seven Traits of Happy Kids. The traits are based on Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and teaches life-long strategies for success.
P.E.-Our P.E. days are Tuesdays and Thursdays this year. Please wear your P.E. uniforms on those days.
I know that this is going to be a great year for all of us.
